Biography:

Belgian painter, aquafortist and litographer Post impressionist of landscapes, portraits, genre scenes and still lifes. He was a pupil at the academy of Ixelles (1899-1900) and Brussels (1902-1906) under Constant Montald. He worked in 1904 briefly together with Edgard Tytgat and with Rik Wouters on Auderghem. From 1950, he was a teacher at the academy of Watermael-Boitsfort. Many retrospectives of the artist (Watermael-Boitsfort in 1966, at the Rouge-Cloître in Auderghem in 1979, at the province of the Brabant in 1989. He was exhibited in a group's retrospective of the cercle Nervia in the Mons Museum in 2002. He begans like a Fauvist and was influenced later by the cubism and the expressionism. He was always an intimist painter of the woman and the children.

Honorary distinctions:

Member of the Royal Academy of Arts, Sciences and humanities of Belgium (1925). He won the prize Auguste Oleffe in 1940 and the prize Baron Steens. He was Chevalier of de l’ordre de Léopold in 1960.
