Biography:

French painter, but also graphic artist, illustrator, designer of costumes and set piece.
He began his painter's career in 1922 in Ostend by James Ensor. He created the ""Galerie d’Art moderne"" and the ""Club du cinéma d’Ostende"" with Henri Storck.
From 1940, it becomes one of the major artists of the young French painting. He was a member of the group of the "" revolutionary Surrealism "".
He was elected member of the French Academy of Arts, in 1966.
In 1974, he was a member of the jury of the official selection of the Cannes film festival.
